Portraits are always fun! Here are a couple of glamour/personality portraits of Ashley from our recent collaborations to help soothe your day. To create these captures, I used 2 Alien Bees B800 studio strobes, Yongnuo RF-622 triggers/receivers and my trusty Canon 5D Mark II fitted with Canon's image stabilised 70-200mm f/2.8L lens. The lights were flanked on each side of the camera. The key light was placed high and to the left of camera and the second light was used as fill on the right, approximately 1/2 stop less than the key light. Exposure settings: 1/125sec @ f/14 ISO 100
Creative Portraits Creative Portraits are a great way to express your unique individuality through makeup, wardrobe or a combination of both! Jojo, a good friend and sometimes muse got the itch to shoot and always comes with an idea! This time she suggested doing something with cornrows. I did some research and found a bunch of inspiration including the following from Wikipedia: "Cornrows are a traditional African style of hair grooming where the hair is braided very close to the scalp" "Depictions of women with cornrows have been found in Stone Age paintings in the Tassili Plateau of the Sahara, and have been dated as far back as 3000 B.C." Location portraits are a nice change of pace from my studio work. Sometimes, I just want to grab my camera, a model and go and shoot without all the extra gear. This was one of those days. I always look forward to working with Ashley. She is always fun and we laugh a lot. We got together for a couple of hours to shoot on location as a change from our studio collaborations. It was a cool day but not terribly frigid. I brought a single Yonguo manual flash, a small octabox in case I wanted to add fill light in backlit situations and my camera bag with camera body and lenses suitable for portraiture and landscape photography.…
Model Portfolio - Ashley I have been mentoring new and aspiring models for quite some time, building their model portfolio, creating solid, usable and images worthy of publishing. Sometimes I work under the auspices of TF which gives me the chance to practice new photography, lighting and posing techniques or to affirm my grasp of techniques used previously. Ashley and I have been shooting TF and she is rapidly becoming somewhat of a muse. We are still fairly new to working with each other but when I find a model who has ideas of her own to compliment mine and is appreciative of the model/photographer dynamic and the number of hours that go into quality image capture/creation, I end up working with that…

Windsor Boudoir Photographer: The Glamour/Boudoir Hybrid Boudoir photography should be alluring, elegant, enticing and full of desire. Typically it is a woman, couple or handsome gentleman in a bed, in various poses and states of undress. Add an elegant boudoir setting, usually a bedroom (where else would you find a bed right?) and you've got boudoir imagery. In contrast, Women in lingerie in locations other than a bed/boudoir/bedroom are typically labelled "glamour." I'll let you be your own judge as to what category you want to place it in. Boudoir Photography is a genre of photography that I have studied and practiced for many years, inspired by the works of Allen, Beaton, Meisel and many, many others who came before. It fills me with pleasure when I can present to women beautiful and desirable images that illustrate their softer/sensual side.. Jo-Ann is a friend, a beautiful woman, wife and mother and she also has a career. She contacted me about a photo session and wanted to spend a couple of hours being pampered in front of the camera, in a boudoir photography session as a mini vacation from mom and career duties. I met Misty in Essex to shoot some fashion style Halloween photo shoot on location in Essex, Ontario. For this set, I used natural light with no reflectors or modifiers.
Engagement - Danny and Melanie Danny and Mel, a beautiful young couple, were looking for a photographer. When chance arose and Sharon recommended Ray Akey Photography as their wedding photographer, we consulted with them, showed selections from our wedding and engagement photography portfolios and agreed to do an engagement session so we could all get to know each other before the planned wedding day. If that went to everyone's liking, Ray Akey Photography would be hired as the couple's wedding photographer.
