A high ISO frame from my recent shoot with too pretty for words model Katie Lalonde. I usually use anywhere from 3 to 5 studio lights for much of my work. However, this summer I am absolutely loving the challenge of these natural light shoots! I used no light modifiers on this shot and no artificial light, just a perfect exposure on a pedestrian bridge at a local park I love to shoot in around 7pm on a summer evening. In order to get a shake-free image handheld under this canopy of trees, I had to bump the ISO to 1600 for this shot. These environmental portraits are fast becoming my most favorite portraits to shoot. Add a beautiful face, a pretty figure and a bit of fill light combined with fast glass and we have a winner! Location Portraiture with Leah Taillefer Location Portraiture with natural light is one of my favorite ways to photograph people. Meet my great niece Sierra Dupuis. Sharon and I met up with Sierra, sister Savannah and their mom Theresa at Jackson Park in Windsor to snap some pretty photos of Sierra in her prom dress. 5 proms in the park this day made it a bit of a challenge! We had to forego the lighting I had planned and worked with available light. We got lucky when clouds moved in to diffuse the sunlight ever so nicely. :) I posted some of these on my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/akeyphoto on the day of the prom but have added a few more previously unseen prom photos with Sierra's cousin Nick Iacono.
Pinup with Beckey I have always loved shooting pinup photography. I collaborated with Leamington model Beckey Holmes on a Pinup themed photoshoot based on a Coke costume she had purchased online. I had the Coke crates and bottles already in my prop collection so all I needed to do was plan some appropriate lighting. After doing much research I decided on a 4 light setup (1 key, 2 rim and 1 fill) and after 45 minutes in studio and a number of hours in Photoshop, I had the perfect set. Meet Maia, an aspiring 16-year old model and actress from Windsor, Ontario! I was contacted by Maia in March to photograph a modeling portfolio for her. Previously, I photographed images for the portfolio of her mom, Carol Parris. Maia was impressed enough by our work with her mom that she contacted me to produce her first modeling portfolio. We arranged to meet at my studio to capture a selection of outfits and poses. Maia arrived at the studio with her stylists (mom Carrol Parris and sister Kiswanna Parris) and Maia did her own makeup. Portraits are always fun! Here are a couple of glamour/personality portraits of Ashley from our recent collaborations to help soothe your day. To create these captures, I used 2 Alien Bees B800 studio strobes, Yongnuo RF-622 triggers/receivers and my trusty Canon 5D Mark II fitted with Canon's image stabilised 70-200mm f/2.8L lens. The lights were flanked on each side of the camera. The key light was placed high and to the left of camera and the second light was used as fill on the right, approximately 1/2 stop less than the key light. Exposure settings: 1/125sec @ f/14 ISO 100

Creative Portraits Creative Portraits are a great way to express your unique individuality through makeup, wardrobe or a combination of both! Jojo, a good friend and sometimes muse got the itch to shoot and always comes with an idea! This time she suggested doing something with cornrows. I have worked with Katelynn a number of times in the past. If you have looked through our portfolio images here on akeyphoto.com, you may have recognized her. Katelynn has returned to resume modeling a while after the birth of her first child. This time she wanted to try some implied topless nudes and also shoot in her "schoolgirl" outfit. Location portraits are a nice change of pace from my studio work. Sometimes, I just want to grab my camera, a model and go and shoot without all the extra gear. This was one of those days. I always look forward to working with Ashley. She is always fun and we laugh a lot. We got together for a couple of hours to shoot on location as a change from our studio collaborations. It was a cool day but not terribly frigid. I brought a single Yonguo manual flash, a small octabox in case I wanted to add fill light in backlit situations and my camera bag with camera body and lenses suitable for portraiture and landscape photography.…
