Fashion Portraits with Playboy Plus model and Naked News personality Krysta Lynn
I recently picked up the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG ART lens for my Canon DSLR and I have to say it is quickly becoming my go-to portrait lens! This lens is exactly as the reviews said. It is bulky and heavy but it is also everything else the reviews say. It is a fast piece of glass that just feels good and solid in my hands. I have done a few personal/portfolio shoots and worked the Sigma for maybe half of the session. If I’m shooting portraits on location, I find myself so comfortable with this lens and its results that I instantly bolt it on my camera before putting it back in my camera bag. Focus can be tricky if you use center point focus and recompose technique at the lens’ widest aperture of 1.4. When shooting portraits however, I can select an off-center focus point and be confident the Sigma will nail focus at that point, which is typically my subject’s eye, whichever one is closest to the camera.
The images below are from the first fashion portraits shoot that I did after purchasing the Sigma 85 ART lens. All of these fashion portraits were captured at the lens’ widest aperture of f/1.4 with only the fading sunlight bouncing off the building next door and into my studio window. I did use a 3×5 reflector (an unused white table top I stood on its end) to kick some light back into the shadows. Exposure information: 1/100s at f/1.4 ISO 3200.
