Published in 17:23 Magazine

Published in 17:23 Magazine Issue 4 Vol 23 This photoshoot published in 17:23 Magazine is one of my most favorite nude/bodypaint shoots to date. Not only because it turned out so perfect but because it was a special collaboration. The concept was to have Lizzy painted white and then colour added. We weren't sure exactly what we wanted the coloured parts to look like so I asked my artist wife Sharon to add the colour. While painting with full artistic license, I asked her to make it look like the paint was ivy growing from Lizzy's feet. I couldn't have asked for a better result! I would like to thank 17:23 Magazine for the…

Model Photoshoot – Portraits and Boudoir

A model photoshoot in the studio with Jessica A collection of portraits and boudoir images from a recent model photoshoot with Jessica. I worked with coloured backgrounds and gelled strobes in the studio to create different looks. Gels are used to change the colour of the light striking the model, background and/or both. Using gels affect the styling of a photoshoot. Here is a small set of images from this model photoshoot with Jessica. Click on any thumbnail to enter the image viewer for a larger view.

Cosplay Photoshoot – Halloween – Wonder Woman

A Halloween Cosplay Photoshoot with Natalie I recently did a cosplay photoshoot at my studio. If you are a repeat visitor to my blog, you may recognize Natalie Laliberte. I have worked with Natalie a few times. Natalie ordered her costume and we set a date to meet at my studio and do her cosplay photshoot. The plan was to shoot on seamless background paper. After the shoot, I then used Photoshop composite digital imaging techniques and Photoshop to insert Natalie into a more interesting environment. A small set is included below for your viewing pleasure. If you would like to book a shoot with me, use my Contact Page or email booking@akeyphoto.com.

Bus Graveyard Beauty from Junk

The Bus Graveyard I am always looking for unique locations to photograph my subject and clients in, on and around. Windsor, Ontario however doesn't have many (in fact very few) grand locations. What Windsor has is a lot of urban spaces, green space and a lot of junk, everywhere. For this photoshoot, we decided to take some junk and shoot something beautiful within.  The location, a bus graveyard that I have known about for many years but hadn't yet used myself. Enter a beautiful blonde model and artist who resides in Windsor. An artist creating in multiple medias. From photography to painting, the potential for her to succeed beyond her wildest dreams is there…

Fashion Photoshoot – Natalie Laliberte in CK

Fashion Photoshoot: Natalie Laliberte in Calvin Klein Underwear I met local model Natalie Laliberte in my studio to do a fashion photoshoot. We are constantly upgrading our respective portfolios. Whenever possible, I love to shoot with brand name fashion and accessories. Natalie arrived to the studio with tight curls, minimal makeup and Calvin Klein underwear. What a combination! The set was lit with a single Alien Bees B800 with a large octabox. A v-flat provided fill to lift the shadows. All images were captured with Canon 5D Mark II and the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 ART lens. The Results If you are looking for a photographer experienced and proficient in fashion photography, contact me for…

Swimwear Photography – Point Pelee – Shelby Lee

Swimwear Photography with Shelby Lee I like to do as many swimwear photography shoots as possible during the spring/summer seasons. As with many of my beach/swimwear shoots, I love to use Point Pelee National Park. It has many beaches on both east and west sides so morning or evening, the light is useable. We just pick the beach based on sunrise or sunset. My model on this day was Shelby Lee, a gorgeous blonde model who needed images for Maxim's Finest contest. Shelby was super easy to work with, had previous modeling experience and was very receptive to suggestions with posing and expressions. I will definitely be working with Shelby again! Lighting the Shoot…

Natural Light Studio Portraits – Natalie

Natural Light Studio Portraits at ApS I recently shot some natural light studio portraits with Natalie. Natalie is a natural beauty, an equestrian who loves the camera. The camera loves her equally. Up until this shoot, I worked with Natalie on location only.  In the Studio Natalie and I met at my studio in downtown Windsor, where we proceeded to shoot a number of high quality portfolio images, from headshots to full body portraits using only the light streaming through my studio windows. For some images I used reflectors to bounce the window light back on Natalie to fill shadows. Technical I used my trusty Canon 5D Mark II to capture these images of…

Protected: Swimwear – Point Pelee

Swimwear with a Gorgeous Blonde Model A swimwear shoot is almost a requirement for anyone serious about modeling. It is the perfect way to show off your figure without being too racy. This model and I have collaborated more than a few times. This time, we decided to do a swimwear shoot at Point Pelee. I do as many swimwear shoots as availability and time permits during the warm months. Finding a Spot We arrived at the beach we intended to shoot at and were immediately shooed away by a family who reserved the beach for the day. We visited two of the other West beaches to see if we could shoot without being…

Model Portfolios – Swimwear – Natalie

Model Portfolios I sometimes work on model portfolios with both aspiring and experienced models. It gives me a great feeling to know I am in some way helping someone else achieve their dreams. Swimwear With Natalie Natalie expressed interest in working with me after our first shoot together at Brunet Park. As I have been looking for a model with Natalie's features and natural beauty, she would be perfect for a beach shoot.  It just so happens that Natalie asked if we could do a beach shoot, so we set up a date and planned to meet at the Marsh Boardwalk at Point Pelee National Park. The Photography Plan My first shoot with Natalie…

Beach Portraits – Kaylee – Point Pelee NP

Beach Portraits with Kaylee The subject of today's blog post is Beach Portraits with Kaylee. As with many of my recent subjects, I met Kaylee on social media. We have discussed maybe doing a shoot a couple of times but never met in person. After I posted an availability notice on social media, Kaylee expressed interest in a beach/swimwear shoot. We booked a date and decided on the beach at Point Pelee National Park. Canada's 150th When choosing a location, I figured, why not Point Pelee? The park is free entry for Canada's 150th birthday with celebrations throughout 2017 and free National Parks entry. I have a National Parks pass for the year. Motherhood…

Cedar Beach – Natalie Ann

Cedar Beach with Natalie Cedar Beach is a favorite of mine for Swimwear photography. Natalie and I have worked together for a number of years now. She is fun, willing to try new things and is super easy on the eyes. Put the two together and we have all the elements needed to create some beautiful images. The Location We discussed the idea of a swimwear shoot and decided on Cedar Beach, located in Kingsville, Ontario. This beach is fairly sandy and has some rocky landscaping that flanks the marina. It is a pretty location for this style of photography. Technical Details I used my Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L lens for…

Original Cult – Ashley Ellery

Original Cult - Fashion with Ashley Ashley and I worked on some alternative fashion photography for our portfolios. She had this cool Original Cult convertible dress. We just had to use it for this shoot! Locations We decided to drive around and scout some locations that would suit the look I was going for. For location #1 we started in the far east of Windsor and used the exterior of a public works building. After shooting a set of options there, we relocated to some unused railroad tracks beneath an underpass and captured another set of images. Our third and final location was the pedestrian overpass on Huron Church road. Insight An insight into…

Natural Beauty – Natalie Laliberte – 2017-07-016

Natural Beauty I met natural beauty Natalie, a young model from Essex County, for the first time when I arrived to this photo shoot. She has this amazing hair and a girl next door, freckled face that just screams photogenic.  Natural light I preferred natural light for this shoot because of Natalie's natural beauty and curls. We began around 6:30pm. We walked around the park stopping wherever the light was good. I don't stick in one place too long as I like a variety to choose from. Brunet park We previously agreed that the shoot would be in the tallgrass at a local park. After some scouting, Brunet Park seemed to be the best…

Sandpoint Beach – Nikki Leigh – 2017-06-15

Sandpoint Beach with Nikki Leigh I prefer the views and shooting options of Point Pelee National Park. However, Sandpoint Beach is an okay local option, only 15-20 minutes from downtown Windsor. Better beaches are almost an hour out of the city.  The Ride to Sandpoint I picked up Nikki from her place and made our way to the beach. We arrived around 6:30pm and captured a series of shots in natural light. Some of Nikki playing in the water, some standing, sitting, crouching or laying on the sand and some partially in the water. Equipment For this shoot, I mainly used my Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS lens. I used…
